Specialist of "Altis-Glass" reveal tricks of the trade

The use of glass as an element of structures in the construction started relatively recently, and today for the specialists it is very important to share experiences, talk about their job, because the parameters and operating conditions of the glass must be calculated very accurately.
This was told by CTO "Altis-Glass", which belongs to a group of companies of Corporation "Altis-Holding", Aleksandr PALLAGIN, commenting on the outcome of the International Industrial Scientific and Technical Conference “TRANSPARENT FACADE SYSTEMS. PECULIARITIES OF APPLICABILITY OF GLASS IN HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS”

According to him, thanks to the development of new technologies of glass tempering, tinting and coating, the glass began to acquire the necessary hardness, making it possible to use this material not only for the glazing of windows, but also as a power element in the construction of buildings. "Glass in modern construction in general and in high-rise construction in particular bears a load, both in structure and environment - thermal, solar, wind. And in the design of the building it is very important to consider such parameters as wind resistance, strength, light transmission, the ability to heat the room due to the accumulation of solar energy ", - says technical director of "Altis-Glass."

When using glass, as any other material, preliminary calculations are done. To date, they may be based on regulatory documents: all kinds of building GOST, which describe usage in any climate zone, wind load. However, according to A.Palagin, there are standards of products which are developed directly by leading manufacturers, which in addition to manufacture of glass provide technical support for their products. "Technical support is an analysis of elements and situations in which the glass of some mark may be used, and in what situations can not be used," - says A. Palagin.

Today, "Altis-GLASS" as a processor of glass acts as a link between the customer and ideas of architects and glass manufacturers, with their potential. "We are doing the necessary calculations and give a professional opinion, if it is possible to implement a project using this or that type of glass, we calculate a load and decide what glass should be used, under what circumstances. - Says the technical director of "Altis-Glass." - This is a complex process, since there are more than 15 parameters for each type of glass: light transmission, heat element, a safety factor of the glass. All these parameters must lie in the framework of the project. Since even a slight change of one parameter at a hundredth part can affect the strength or other features of the facade of the building as a whole."  As an example A. Palagin provided calculations of heat-transfer factor when the glass can be heated by accumulating solar heat and transferring it into the building. "In winter it is good, but if you do not take into account the average annual temperature, costs of summer air conditioning of such building could cover all other operating costs", - said A. Palagin.

That is why during the analysis of glass usage, it is important to calculate parameters occurring throughout the year in the area where the building will be built. And the experts of "Altis-Glass", after the necessary calculations  are done can choose for the customer the type of glass, which is universal for building, maintaining all necessary dynamic loads and evenly heating of buildings in winter and cooling in summer.
