Construction of roads from cement concrete needs to be wider used in Ukraine
He also noted that the life of roads constructed with cement concrete is 25 to 50 years, while life of roads with asphalt laying is 10-15 years. "Given our climate asphalt roads need to be repaired much earlier; after 5-8 years of operation cement concrete surface needs only to have joints repaired, which is not an expensive process and doesn’t demand much time. While the asphalt roads after the same period of operation need major repairs, "- said Vacheslav Portugalskiy.
Speaking of the calculations the cost of construction of roads with the use of cement concrete, which, is considered to be higher because of the use of more expensive materials and special equipment, Mr.Portugalsiy said that the maximum constructive for the cement concrete and typical for asphalt concrete are often compared, which certainly reduces the cost of the latter. "But we should not forget that the thickness of coatings of cement concrete is 22-26 cm, while the asphalt roads of this figure reaches only 15-16 cm. Neither the operating life of the roadway, or routine repairs required for asphalt coating in this comparison is usually not taken into account. And if you calculate in complex, the real savings for long term use of cement-concrete roads is 40-60% ", - says Vyacheslav Portugalskiy.
He also stressed the importance of economic and financial aspects of the construction of cement concrete roads: to date, the main binder for asphalt concrete pavement is bitumen, which is in Ukraine in sufficient quantity and quality is not produced. Thus, our road services have to buy it from Belarusian or Russian suppliers. "At the same time, the development of road construction using cement concrete could help to establish a vicious cycle of production in our country and give money to domestic producers, who pay wages and taxes in Ukraine, as all major components - cement, gravel, sand, and processing aids - are made in Ukraine ", - says Vuacheslav Portugalskiy.
